It's that time of year when sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes and running noses are abound. With high pollen counts during Spring, so many turn to medication looking for relief from nagging allergies. If you're one of them, give the neti pot an honest try...you'll be surprised with the results.
Jala Neti is the practice of cleansing the nostrils with saline water using a simple neti pot. It can be practiced daily by nearly anyone with no unhealthy side effects. You'll experience clearer breathing and almost immediate relief from allergy symptoms, headache, snoring and more. It's quick and easy to do, and once you get the hang of it, it'll become part of your morning routine...keeping you free of sinus problems and medications.
Benefits of Jala Neti
Neti practice has numerous benefits and nearly anyone can practice it without contraindication (avoid if having nose infection or chronic nose bleeding). Neti can help heal the following conditions:
Allergies (all kinds)
Frequent colds and cough
Difficulty in taste or smell
How to Practice Neti
Begin by mixing one teaspoon of salt in two cups of lukewarm water (use filtered or distilled water).
Pour your saline solution in your clean neti pot.
Lean your head over a sink.
Tilt the side of your head with the nostril being cleaned down. The nostril that you are pouring the water in should be higher than the one that the water will flow out of.
Insert the spout into that nostril, and gently tip the neti pot, letting the water pour into your nose. Water will naturally flow out of the other nostril.
Keep your mouth open!
Once you are finished rinsing, blow your nose - one nostril at a time.
Repeat process on the other side.
It may feel strange at first, but don’t give up. Jala neti is safe and natural. However do not overuse the neti pot. Too much rinsing can harm your nasal passages, as your mucus is there to protect you. Once per day is sufficient to treat colds and allergies. If you have chronic sinuses problems, cap your neti pot use at a few times per week. Or use just when you need it, like during allergy season or when you feel a cold coming on.
